Andro Giunio

Andro Giunio is a graphic designer, assistant professor at the Department of Media Design at the University of North in Koprivnica, and an artist. In his art practice, he engages in experimental music and sound performance, both independently and in collaborative projects with artists from the fields of new media art, music, and contemporary dance. He is interested in composition and improvisation, electroacoustic manipulation, and research into digital and analog media for reproduction. He participated in the Sinelinea – New Sound Platform (2012, 2013, 2016), and performed the composition for “Slika od zvuka” on the third program of the Croatian Radio, independently (“Kompozicija za neugođenu gitaru”, 2017) and in collaboration with Miodrag Gladović (“Zvuk od Zida”, 2018). He participated in the art residency program of the Miroslav Kraljević Gallery “Open Studio” (2018), performed at the Contemporary Sound Exhibition in the Student Center (2018), and composed music for the performance/exhibition of the collective BADco, titled “Foundation Pit” (2018). He also took part in collaborative projects and performances “Choreography of Utopia, Movement No. 2” and “Utopia of the Extended Here and Now” (2018–2021). Guinio performed at the experimental sound event “Gibanja” at the Zagreb Dance Center (2021) and in Kontejner Association (2025). He was the author and performer of the music for the play “Soma Diva” (by author: Lana Hosni, 2021). He performed music for the expanded cinema audiovisual performance “Aiomena” (co-authorship with Tin Dožić and Hrvoje Spudić, 25 FPS festival, 2023). He also performed the multichannel composition “Three Streams – Sound Psychogeography of Črnomerec” as part of the project “Sound Photo of Črnomerec”, Kvartovski objektiv, Galerija VN (2025).

“Pneumaphone” is a work assembled as a sound performance whose structure develops through the diffusion of field recordings and the acoustic specifics of crafted wind instruments. The segment of the work based on field recordings includes the documentation of sound fragments of the port ecosystem: the space of the Rijeka port as a hub of exchange and communication between people, machines and nature – life above and below the surface of the sea. The second segment is based on the research of (DIY) crafted wind instruments that act as acoustic conductors and resonators, physical structures that direct air flows and shape the behaviour of sound waves within a defined volume. The live performance is a synthesis of all these segments in an attempt to shape a sound landscape between the real and the imaginary, between the memory of space and its sonic reinterpretation. The work continues on previous projects of research on wind instruments and electroacoustic composition through the manipulation of field recordings (“Off Gamut”, 2025, “Three Streams – Sound Psychogeography for Črnomerec”, 2025).

Museum for Modern and Contemporary Art, Rijeka (HR) - MMSU

MMSU in Rijeka founded in 1948, in its long tradition offers a committed support to innovative ways of approaching, producing and presenting art. From its very beginning the Museum has been building reputation of one of the most prominent visual art institutions in Croatia, entrusted with presentation of Croatian artists at prestigious international art events such as: Venice Biennial 1962, 1997, 2007, 2010, Sao Paolo Biennial 1967, 2004 etc. 

The Museum rounds its programming around visual art education, parallel to different modes of exhibition concepts that address new discursive possibilities and transform it into a place of inspiration, idea exchange and active participation. Under the motto openness, creativity & engagement, together with artistic, cultural and community organizations, Museum furthers visual arts research, collaboration and exchange within the region and internationally, while aspiring to reach increasingly diverse audiences and to work in a close relationship with the community.

Museum’s collection offers a diverse range of artistic visions with over 8,000 artworks dated from the end of the 19^th century to the present day. From 2017 Museum is located at new address, Krešimirova 26c, in ex-industrial complex Rikard Benčić. Since then, some important exhibitions were organized at MMSU in the framework of the pre-program and program of Rijeka 2020 - European Capital of Culture, i.e. Tomislav Gotovac: Crisis Anticipator - Don't Ask Where We're Going (2017), Vlado Martek: Exhibition with Many Titles and Goran Petercol: Don't Worry About Poetics, They Will Arrive on Their Own in 2019 and David Maljković: With the Collection in 2020..
