Tomica Šćavina
Tomica Šćavina (born 1975) graduated in Psychology from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. Her first novel, Brod za Lajku (The Ship for Laika), was shortlisted for the VBZ Award for Best Unpublished Novel, while her second novel, Povratak genija (The Return of the Genius), won two literary awards: Sfera and Artefakt. Her third novel, Soba na dnu mora (The Room at the Bottom of the Sea), was also shortlisted for the VBZ Award.
She has published two poetry collections, Ornamenti pada (Ornaments of the Fall) and Kuća od vjetra (The House of Wind), as well as two children's books, Krotitelj oblaka (The Cloud Tamer) and Legenda o ljubavi (The Legend of Love). In 2025, her fourth novel, Prešućeni jezik (The Unspoken Language), was published.
Tomica has been a longtime collaborator with the Drama Department of Croatian Radio. She completed a one-year training program at the Master School of Radio Features, organized by the European Broadcasting Union, and is the author of numerous documentary radio dramas.
She has taught Psychology of Creativity and Psychology of Characters at Vern University in Zagreb. She has participated in artist residencies in Florida, Rhodes, Idaho, Alabama, Latvia, Finland, and Norway. She is a member of the Croatian Writers’ Association and the Croatian Freelance Artists’ Association.
